If we put ourselves in the minds of Pyrrhonists, those skeptics who believed we find our greatest peace of mind when opinions seem to weigh evenly and we are left withholding judgment altogether, we are still left with decisions. This is why the dogmatic often win contests to lead, their simple thoughts always bend toward action.
But even if our philosophies are no help at all, we still must decide. Sometimes the body knows better than the head and will make the choice for us. But other times the body’s rule is only momentary and when the same conundrum arises again, the outcome shifts.
After the decisions are made, we can only live with ourselves, not our reason. Our souls, those things we create out of our desires and principles, will be altered with our choice. So which soul do we prefer? Which version of us can we embrace most proudly when it all comes up heads or tails?
